Welcome Back

We are so glad to get to work with you another year. We have much to share with you. We will be blogging again. Please feel free to link back to the 2007-2008, since everything will be new.
Thanks for being here and for "ALL" you do for the kids of Madison County.
Tina and Krista

Let's practice blogging:
Read both quotes below, pick one and comment how you feel it applies to you and your students. (All comments will be anonymous)

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. ~Alvin Toffler

The mediocre teacher tells.
The good teacher explains.
The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires.
~William Arthur Ward

After you comment above, tell us how your year is going with math and/or technology.

I feel that technology is an excellent partner with math instruction. Kids love it!!

This year is going wonderful so far! As a first year teacher I feel a little overwelmed, but slowly and surely I am getting the hang of things.

Iam having a great beginning to this school year. I have a very sweet group of 22 students. We are coming along with math. FASTT math is a part of our week, we complete this in the computer lab. My students are enjoying using math manipulatives. I am anxious to learn more and exciting ways to teach math.

I hope I am learning more about using my classroom technology... at least I feel like I am! I enjoy coming to work with Krista and learning new things. However, sometimes I feel like there is soooooooo much I don't know which resources to pull from, because they are all so wonderful!

Every Day Math is going great!

I hope that I am able to inspire my students to learn. We tell, explain, and demonstrate and hope that our students will want to learn to their greatest ability.

Technology is being used often throughout our school and in my classroom. Students enjoy using the smart pad and clickers. I do believe that there needs to be a balance of how often technology is used. Students are enjoying math so far and have been very successful on assessments.

Thank you so much for the math session provided this summer. It was so beneficial to have time to prepare materials to use in the classroom. I have games prepared this year to use with my math lessons that I may not have otherwise had the time to prepare.

Working on literature and math is helpful. I would love some more stories for my intelligent classroom.
We have a math interventionist this year. I understand that they had to identify student needs but I would them to work with students in need sooner.

I think the math interventionists need more help. Meaning that it takes about 5 weeks before any students are pulled and then they often need to be out of the building for meetings, ect... Plus, a whole school is too big for one interventionist.

Math seems to be going fine so far...I am trying to identify specific areas of concern for my students so that they can gain strength in their foundation skills.
Technology is great, but I long for more time to get more presentations and uses together...I really long to use the "pad" more and need to do some work with turning point, but I am confident that I will get there....it's just a matter of time.

I enjoy using Everyday Math. One of the best things about it is the differentiation.

My year has been great so far! I have a great group of kids and wonderful helpers. I have so many ideas for math that I am going to need a lot of time to sort through them and implement them. I am excited about it though.

I think math and technology are going well this year. I have enjoyed using information from the websites that were provided in the math trainings last year as well as the stories to use with the intelligent classrooms.

I am having a good year. I have 15 boys and 8 girls. My students are precious, but very full of energy. I want this year to be the best I can make it. I am putting in many hours and getting exhausted. I know the students are learning. I am focusing on reading and math, using many strategies that I have learned over the past thirty years. I wish I had fewer students or more assistance. It is hard to meet the needs of all the students. It just seems that there are so many children with special needs. I am concerned about the younger teachers and new teachers getting burned out and frustrated with all the demands made on them. We/They are asked to do too much.

We are working very hard to implement all our Everyday Math. I have worried that I am not covering all the concepts completely. I keep reminding myself that it is a spiral review and we visit again. I think the students are learning and having fun.

This year, our school is implementing Everyday Mathematics (EM). Although it is very different than anything I have ever used, I am enjoying it! I can't believe what my students are able to do because of the activities this program offers. My students LOVE the games, which focus on concepts and skills. They are learning and don't really know it!!! So for everyone truding through EM for the first time, hang in there! It will get better. Stay positive!!!

I am enjoying the new Every Day Math. I spend a lot of time preparing to teach. It also takes at least an hour and half in the classroom each day. The children are enjoying it and they are making good progress. I am using technology as medium for presenting information and the children are using the computer to help with learning activities.

The mediocre student hears it.
The good student processes it.
The superior student retains it.
The great student lives it!!!

I am always open to learning new resources to utilize with my students. Math web-based programs are an effective component for many kiddos! THANKS

I think technology is a great way to reach our students with special needs.

I am excited about the games being
added for Everyday math.

We are adjusting to Everyday Math. At first it was very difficult but we are beginning to get a grasp on it. Technology was going great until my projector bulb went out.

Technology is getting better for me. Math is a learning process, I know it will be easier next year.

Technology is an excellent way to excite the students about learning. However, I have had a great deal of difficulty with technology this year. My projector has just been fixed. Now my Elmo is not working. I just realized this yesterday when I began a lesson in which I had planned to use the Elmo. I really hope that we continue to get the technology support with Tina because she is a big help. We need repetitive practice in all areas of technology.
Thank you so much for the math training over the summer. It was so useful. I have truly enjoyed working with Krista. She is a great inspiration and is truly interested in student learning.

I love the money jingles, especailly the "Make Change" jingle. I could just see my students singing out and dancing along with the music. I can't wait to try it out!

The place value information was very helpful!!!!!

I love the nath games we have on the blog spot. We can use this to try out games and also send these websites home for parents to use. I have also enjoyed the game cd that came with the everyday math. The children have lots of fun with the games.
